Lahontan Reservoir: Gone for good?

11/13/2008

I took the Piper Warrior out yesterday afternoon just for an hour or so, I decided I would take off out of Carson City and fly out east toward Dayton and follow the Carson River eastbound toward Silver Springs and then fly back. As I got out toward Lahontan I was completely shocked, as I haven’t been out there to see it in maybe 6 months or more. There really isn’t a lake anymore; I would call it a marsh at best! I remember back in high school as I grew up in Yerington going out to Lahontan on the weekends as it being a decent sized lake, enough to go jet skiing and boating, now it looks like a very large mud puddle. Where has all this water gone? I have no idea, I’m not really in the loop of things out there, farmers maybe? Anyways I just wanted to share some photos of it from the air and give people a different perspective of it that may have only seen it from the ground. Any questions or comments would be greatly appreciated. Click on Photos for an enlarged picture.
